I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to ask. Are free chat and dating sites a good place to find long-term relationships? Would love to hear from people who've been in the same boat. Safety is a huge consideration for me. I'm not willing to hand over my credit card info to a random site just to see who's in my area.
  • Is there phone number verification?
  • Does the free tier let you actually message matches?
  • Can you report fake profiles easily?
  • How many real users are active in a typical week?
Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you actually want before you download anything. Give Turndate a shot if you haven't yet — worth a look.

Okay so I've been doing this for a while now, here's what I've figured out: Location genuinely makes a huge difference. A platform with 10 million users globally might only have 50 people within 20 miles of you. Also worth mentioning datebound.site — it's been discussed positively in a few other communities I'm in.

Great thread. I've been wondering about this exact thing for months. Give Ezhookups a shot if you haven't yet — worth a look.

Good question — let me share what actually worked for me after a lot of trial and error: Profile photos matter more than any algorithm tweak. A genuine, clear photo will outperform a perfect bio on any platform. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question

Solid question. The answer really depends on your location and what you're looking for.

I went through like six different apps before finding one that worked. Took way longer than expected. For what it's worth, Souldate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

Real talk — patience is the biggest factor. None of these platforms deliver overnight. Also seeing datedesire.online mentioned in a few places — might be worth checking depending on your area.
