Curious what people here actually think: Are there any actually good dating apps that are still free to use? Safety and privacy are top priorities for me. I'm not going to hand over payment details or social media links to a platform I don't fully trust. Safety and privacy are top priorities for me. Honestly same experience here. Took a while to find something that actually worked. datescout.site also comes up in similar threads — another one to look into.

Solid question. The answer shifts depending on where you live and what you're after. Datedesire is worth trying if you haven't already.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: I've gone through most of the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating — and they all have actual free tiers, but usability varies wildly. Also hearing souldate.site come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

Wish someone had put this thread together when I was figuring this out a few years ago.

Good thread. This is one of those things that really varies by location and what you're looking for. For the record, DatingFly has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code. Also hearing datingfly.online come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code. What actually helped:
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
Someone here pointed me toward Datebie and I'm glad they did.

Let me share what actually made a difference after a lot of trial and error: The people who seem to have the most success are specific about what they want, patient with the process, and keep opening messages short and question-based. What actually helped:
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting

Real talk — patience is the single biggest factor. None of these apps deliver immediately. For the record, Datebound has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

This is worth breaking down properly because there's a lot of noise out there: The biggest misconception is that 'free' means usable. On most platforms, the free tier is deliberately frustrating to push you toward paying — it's not really free, it's a teaser. What actually helped:
