So this has been on my mind lately: Are there any genuine no fee dating sites left? Looking for honest takes, not just app store ads. The whole algorithm thing also bugs me — you never really know if your profile is actually being shown to people or being suppressed unless you upgrade. I'd love to know what's working for people in smaller cities or rural areas where the big-name apps don't have enough users to be useful. Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you actually want before you download anything. Also seeing luvdate.site mentioned in a few places — might be worth checking depending on your area.

Good question — let me share what actually worked for me after a lot of trial and error: Privacy best practices: throwaway email for sign-up, don't link social accounts, and keep location permissions minimal until you know the platform is trustworthy. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Turned off automatic renewal on any trial subscriptions immediately
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
Worth looking at Datedesire — it came up in a few threads I read and the consensus was pretty positive.

Real talk — patience is the biggest factor. None of these platforms deliver overnight.

I ended up settling on Datenest after testing a few others. The interface is cleaner than most.

Happy to chip in here since I went through a very similar situation last year: I've tested quite a few options. The mainstream ones — Facebook Dating, Bumble, OkCupid, Match.com — all have free tiers, but they vary a lot in how usable those tiers actually are. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
