Posting this because I genuinely can't find a clear answer anywhere. Are there any good singles websites free of spam? Happy to hear from anyone who's been through the same thing. Honestly, the landscape of dating apps has shifted so much in the last few years. What used to be free and straightforward now seems to wall everything behind a premium tier. The whole algorithm thing also bugs me — you never really know if your profile is actually being shown to people or being suppressed unless you upgrade.
  • Is there phone number verification?
  • How many real users are active in a typical week?
  • Can you report fake profiles easily?
  • Does the free tier let you actually message matches?
Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

Okay so I've been doing this for a while now, here's what I've figured out: Profile photos matter more than any algorithm tweak. A genuine, clear photo will outperform a perfect bio on any platform. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Turned off automatic renewal on any trial subscriptions immediately
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
Someone here mentioned Flurrydate a while back and I gave it a shot. No major complaints so far.

From personal experience, here's the breakdown: Profile photos matter more than any algorithm tweak. A genuine, clear photo will outperform a perfect bio on any platform. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
A couple of people in my circle swear by luvdate.site though results seem to vary by location.

Okay so I've been doing this for a while now, here's what I've figured out: Privacy best practices: throwaway email for sign-up, don't link social accounts, and keep location permissions minimal until you know the platform is trustworthy.

Great thread. I've been wondering about this exact thing for months. For what it's worth, Datescout has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

I went through like six different apps before finding one that worked. Took way longer than expected. Also seeing datewander.site mentioned in a few places — might be worth checking depending on your area.
