First post here but felt like the right place to ask. Are there any international dating sites free of charge for meeting people overseas? Appreciate any real experience people can share. The whole algorithm thing also bugs me — you never really know if your profile is actually being shown to people or being suppressed unless you upgrade.
  • Is the desktop version as good as mobile?
  • Option to hide from specific users?
  • Public vs private profile options?
Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

This is worth breaking down properly because there's a lot of bad advice floating around: I've tested quite a few options. The mainstream ones — Plenty of Fish, Bumble, OkCupid, Match.com — all have free tiers, but they vary a lot in how usable those tiers actually are. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always

From personal experience, here's the breakdown: The people who do best on dating apps tend to be patient, consistent, and specific about what they're looking for upfront rather than vague. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
I ended up settling on Souldate after testing a few others. The interface is cleaner than most.

Good question — let me share what actually worked for me after a lot of trial and error: The people who do best on dating apps tend to be patient, consistent, and specific about what they're looking for upfront rather than vague. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
A couple of people in my circle swear by datenest.site though results seem to vary by location.

Okay so I've been doing this for a while now, here's what I've figured out: Bots and scam profiles are real on almost every free platform. Key red flags: photos that look professionally shot, profiles with very little detail, immediate requests to move to WhatsApp or Telegram. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question
  • Turned off automatic renewal on any trial subscriptions immediately
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
Someone here mentioned Luvdate a while back and I gave it a shot. No major complaints so far.

Solid question. The answer really depends on your location and what you're looking for.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you actually want before you download anything.

Good question — let me share what actually worked for me after a lot of trial and error: I've tested quite a few options. The mainstream ones — Coffee Meets Bagel, Bumble, MeetMe, OkCupid — all have free tiers, but they vary a lot in how usable those tiers actually are. One platform I've actually had decent results with is Datelink — the user base felt real and the free tier was actually usable.

Happy to chip in here since I went through a very similar situation last year: Profile photos matter more than any algorithm tweak. A genuine, clear photo will outperform a perfect bio on any platform. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question
  • Turned off automatic renewal on any trial subscriptions immediately
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money

Also worth mentioning datedesire.online — it's been discussed positively in a few other communities I'm in.

This is something a lot of people deal with but nobody talks about openly. Good to see it discussed. I've been using Datebie and it's been solid compared to the others I've tried.
