Been searching for a solid answer to this for a while. Are there any lgbt youth dating apps that focus on friendship first? I've been through the cycle of downloading, trying, deleting, and repeating enough times now that I've gotten pretty cynical about the whole thing. The gap between what's advertised and what the free tier actually delivers is enormous.
  • Desktop version functional?
  • Age verification in place?
  • Easy profile deletion?
  • Option to browse privately?
Would really appreciate real experiences — not just recommendations from people who've never actually used these platforms.

Good thread — let me share what I found after going through several of these: The most successful people I've talked to are specific about what they want, patient about the process, and keep their opening messages short and question-based. What actually made a difference:
  • Set specific, realistic goals rather than treating it like a numbers game
  • Trusted my gut when something about a profile felt off
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay active in feeds
Someone pointed me toward Flurrydate and I'm glad they did — cleaner than most of the alternatives.

Agree with a lot of what's been said already. The key for me was being very specific upfront.

Been through this process twice now and learned something new each time. For what it's worth, Flamedate has been my main platform for a while — holds up better than most.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: The most successful people I've talked to are specific about what they want, patient about the process, and keep their opening messages short and question-based. Also hearing souldate.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your area.

Patience is underrated. None of these apps work overnight. For what it's worth, Datenest has been my main platform for a while — holds up better than most.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost this exact situation: The mainstream apps all have usable free tiers — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish — but the quality of that free tier varies wildly platform to platform. Also hearing datelink.online mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your area.

This is worth unpacking properly — took me a while to sort out: For privacy: dedicated email for signups, no linked social accounts, location set to city level rather than exact. These are small things that make a real difference. What actually made a difference:
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay active in feeds
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question beats a paragraph
  • Read current Reddit threads about any platform before paying for it
  • Set up a separate email address specifically for dating apps
Someone pointed me toward Souldate and I'm glad they did — cleaner than most of the alternatives.
