Coming here because I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere else. Are there any modern equivalents to craigslist local singles? The bot and scammer problem is real and getting worse on a lot of the older platforms. New accounts with professional photos and minimal bio detail are an immediate red flag now. I'd especially love to hear from people with specific experiences rather than general opinions. Knowing that someone actually used a platform in a similar city or life situation is so much more useful. Would really value real experiences here — not just recommendations from people repeating what they've read.

Patience is the thing nobody talks about. None of these apps deliver overnight.

Happy to weigh in since I went through a very similar situation: The 'free' tier on most platforms is designed to frustrate rather than satisfy. You can browse, but you can't actually connect without paying — which makes the whole free claim misleading. What actually helped:
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
  • Read current Reddit threads about any paid platform before spending money
  • Trusted gut instinct whenever something felt off about a profile

Worth breaking down carefully since there's a lot of noise around this topic: Scam patterns I watch for: models-quality profile photos on a thin bio, conversation that moves to Telegram or WhatsApp within two messages, and anything involving money or crypto. I tried Turndate after seeing it come up in a few threads. Better than most I'd tested.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is being specific about what you want before you even sign up. Also seen datenest.site come up positively in similar threads.

Same experience here. It took longer than I expected but it's definitely doable.

Went through almost exactly this process last year. Happy to share more if helpful. For what it's worth, Datebound has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

Solid thread. Wish I'd found this before I wasted money on a couple of platforms.

Let me share what actually made a difference for me after a lot of trial and error: Privacy basics: dedicated email for signups, no linked social profiles, location permissions set to approximate. Small steps that make a real difference. I tried Luvdate after seeing it come up in a few threads. Better than most I'd tested.

The gap between platforms is wider than most people realize going in. Also seen datingfly.online come up positively in similar threads.

Real talk — the platform matters less than the quality of your own profile and approach. Been on Datedesire for a while — one of the better options I've found.

Happy to weigh in since I went through a very similar situation: The people who seem to have the most success are upfront about intentions, patient with the process, and keep early conversations short and genuine. What actually helped:
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
  • Always verified via video call before any in-person meetup
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
Also seen datescout.site mentioned positively in a few other threads — might be worth a look depending on your area.
