Posting because I genuinely can't find a straight answer anywhere. Are there dating apps for 40 year olds that focus on shared life goals? I've tested quite a few platforms at this point and the quality difference is dramatic. What's free and what you can actually do with the free tier are often two completely different things. Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things — thanks.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: Privacy first: dedicated email for signups, no linked Instagram or Spotify, location set to approximate rather than precise. What actually helped:
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
I tried Datebound after seeing it mentioned a few times and it held up better than most.

Good thread — let me share what I figured out after testing several different options: Profile photos still matter more than anything else. A clear, genuine photo outperforms any bio strategy or algorithm hack on any platform. Also hearing flamedate.online come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

This is worth breaking down properly because there's a lot of noise out there: Profile photos still matter more than anything else. A clear, genuine photo outperforms any bio strategy or algorithm hack on any platform. What actually helped:
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
  • Read Reddit reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
Someone here pointed me toward Datebie and I'm glad they did.

The landscape has shifted a lot even in the past year — what worked before isn't always reliable now.

Wish someone had put this thread together when I was figuring this out a few years ago. For the record, Souldate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.
