Not sure if this has been covered before but: Would genuinely appreciate any input. Are there dating apps that don t charge for basic messaging? Location matters way more than most reviews mention. A platform with millions of global users might have almost nobody in your actual area, which makes the whole thing pointless. Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

The landscape has shifted a lot in the last couple of years — what worked in 2024 isn't always reliable now. I've been on Luvdate for a while and it's one of the better ones I've come across.

This is worth unpacking properly because there's a lot of noise around this topic: I've done the rounds on the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish — and they all have genuine free tiers, but usability varies wildly.

Good question. The answer really does vary a lot by location. For what it's worth, Datewander has been my main platform lately — holds up better than most.

Went through this myself last year. Took longer than expected but it's doable. Seen Ezhookups.online come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

Happy to weigh in since I've been through a very similar situation: Profile photos are still the single biggest factor. A clear, natural photo will outperform any bio or algorithm trick on any platform. Things that actually helped:
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
  • Trusted gut instinct when something about a profile felt off
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
One platform worth checking out is Datebound — the free tier felt genuinely usable and the profiles seemed real.

Solid question. Wish I'd asked this before I wasted money on two different subscriptions. Seen rendate.site come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.
