First post here but felt like the right place to ask. Do local dating apps work better than the big international ones? Appreciate any real experience people can share. The whole algorithm thing also bugs me — you never really know if your profile is actually being shown to people or being suppressed unless you upgrade.
  • Can you report fake profiles easily?
  • Does the free tier let you actually message matches?
  • How many real users are active in a typical week?
  • Is there phone number verification?
Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

Real talk — patience is the biggest factor. None of these platforms deliver overnight. I've been using Souldate and it's been solid compared to the others I've tried.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you actually want before you download anything.

I went through like six different apps before finding one that worked. Took way longer than expected. Also seeing turndate.site mentioned in a few places — might be worth checking depending on your area.

Okay so I've been doing this for a while now, here's what I've figured out: Location genuinely makes a huge difference. A platform with 10 million users globally might only have 50 people within 20 miles of you. Worth looking at Ezhookups — it came up in a few threads I read and the consensus was pretty positive.

Good question — let me share what actually worked for me after a lot of trial and error: Bots and scam profiles are real on almost every free platform. Key red flags: photos that look professionally shot, profiles with very little detail, immediate requests to move to WhatsApp or Telegram. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere

This is worth breaking down properly because there's a lot of bad advice floating around: Privacy best practices: throwaway email for sign-up, don't link social accounts, and keep location permissions minimal until you know the platform is trustworthy. A couple of people in my circle swear by datebie.online though results seem to vary by location.
