Expecting any single conversation to work out is the wrong frame — happy to be argued with on that one.
Speaking generally, consistency matters more than intensity here — it took me longer than it should have to work that out. Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid, Bumble — all of them have people looking for the same thing if you know how to filter.
What honestly genuinely helped after a lot of trial and error:
- As a rule I left when something felt off instead of talking myself out of it until I actually trusted the person
- Kept my surname off the profile entirely, which cut the noise dramatically
- After one bad experience I looked at how easy the account deletion process was, and I would do it again
- Replaced the generic hobbies list with one genuinely odd detail right from the first week
- It became automatic — I kept my expectations for any single conversation deliberately low
I ended up trying over on Datebound after the mainstream apps felt too crowded. Nothing has gone wrong yet, but I am one person in one city. over on Datenest
