Curious what people here actually think: Has anyone tried casualx for finding non-monogamous partners? The algorithm question bugs me a lot. Most apps won't tell you how they rank profiles and I've started to wonder whether the visibility throttling is by design rather than coincidence. I'd love to hear from people outside the major cities. The suburban and rural experience on these platforms is genuinely different and usually underrepresented in reviews.
  • Proximity matching that isn't artificially throttled
  • Active reporting tools
  • Clear data deletion option
  • No paywall on basic chat
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things — thanks.

Solid question. The answer shifts depending on where you live and what you're after. Been using Rendate for a while — one of the better ones I've come across.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost exactly this situation: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: I've gone through most of the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating — and they all have actual free tiers, but usability varies wildly. Flurrydate came up repeatedly in my research — worth a look.

Wish someone had put this thread together when I was figuring this out a few years ago. flamedate.online also comes up in similar threads — another one to look into.

Good thread — let me share what I figured out after testing several different options: Scam red flags I've learned to spot: modeling-quality photos, very thin bios, conversation that quickly moves to a different platform, and anything that involves money.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you want before you start. Been using Luvdate for a while — one of the better ones I've come across.

Good thread — let me share what I figured out after testing several different options: The people who seem to have the most success are specific about what they want, patient with the process, and keep opening messages short and question-based. What actually helped:
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
  • Read Reddit reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
I tried Datenest after seeing it mentioned a few times and it held up better than most.

Let me share what actually made a difference after a lot of trial and error: Profile photos still matter more than anything else. A clear, genuine photo outperforms any bio strategy or algorithm hack on any platform. What actually helped:
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Read Reddit reviews of any paid platform before spending money
Also hearing turndate.site come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.
