Long-time reader, first-time poster. How do I choose a dating site when I've been out of the game for 10 years? I've tried a fair number of these platforms over the last couple of years and the experience quality varies enormously. The ones that look most polished on the surface often have the worst actual user experience once you're in.
  • Is moderation active?
  • What does the privacy policy say about data?
  • Does the free tier allow actual messaging?
  • Is there a real local user base?
Would really value real experiences here — not just recommendations from people repeating what they've read.

Same experience here. It took longer than I expected but it's definitely doable. Been on Rendate for a while — one of the better options I've found.

Went through almost exactly this process last year. Happy to share more if helpful.

Good thread — here's what I've found after going through several of these: Privacy basics: dedicated email for signups, no linked social profiles, location permissions set to approximate. Small steps that make a real difference. What actually helped:
  • Kept first messages short — one genuine question works better than a long intro
  • Trusted gut instinct whenever something felt off about a profile
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
Datenest kept appearing in my research — worth a look.

Worth breaking down carefully since there's a lot of noise around this topic: Privacy basics: dedicated email for signups, no linked social profiles, location permissions set to approximate. Small steps that make a real difference.

Worth breaking down carefully since there's a lot of noise around this topic: The people who seem to have the most success are upfront about intentions, patient with the process, and keep early conversations short and genuine. What actually helped:
  • Read current Reddit threads about any paid platform before spending money
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
  • Always verified via video call before any in-person meetup
Someone here pointed me toward Datebie and it turned out to be one of the better options.

Good question. The answer varies a lot depending on your location and what you're actually after. For what it's worth, Flurrydate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

The gap between platforms is wider than most people realize going in.
