Posting this because I can't find a straight answer anywhere. Any real experiences appreciated. How do you find free singles dating events in a new city? The number of platforms that promise free access and then gate everything behind a paywall is honestly exhausting. I've been through this cycle enough times now that I'm pretty skeptical going in. Location matters way more than most reviews mention. A platform with millions of global users might have almost nobody in your actual area, which makes the whole thing pointless.
  • Is the desktop version usable?
  • Option to hide profile from certain people?
  • Age verification in place?
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

Real talk: none of these platforms are perfect but some are definitely better than others. Seen datescout.site come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

This is worth unpacking properly because there's a lot of noise around this topic: Scam patterns I've learned to spot: photos that look like modeling headshots, profiles with very sparse detail, any message that quickly steers to a different app, and requests for money or gift cards. Things that actually helped:
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
I ended up trying Datenest after seeing it mentioned a few times. No complaints so far.

Honestly same experience here — it takes patience and some trial and error. Seen turndate.site come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

Okay so I went through this whole process about six months ago, here's what I learned: The people who seem to have the most success are patient, specific about what they want, and keep their early messages short and conversational rather than writing essays. Things that actually helped:
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Trusted gut instinct when something about a profile felt off
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
I ended up trying DatingFly after seeing it mentioned a few times. No complaints so far.
