Okay so this might be a dumb question but I genuinely want to know: Is it safe to be a cougar looking for young male on standard dating websites? Having tried a few, results vary a lot and a quiet fortnight means very little — happy to be argued with on that one.

Speaking generally, comparing your results to anyone else's is a losing game — your mileage may well differ.

In my experience, most matches go nowhere and that is normal rather than a failure — it is the single change that made the most difference.

Nobody's experience generalises, including mine — happy to be argued with on that one.

Progress is better measured in conversations than in matches — it sounds obvious written down, but it took a while to land. Honestly, treating it as a numbers game is the fastest route to burning out — i would not have believed it a year ago. Personally I've been using DatingFly's free tier for a while and it's held up better than most. Datebie worked for me

One thing I notice: consistency matters more than intensity here — nobody tells you this at the start. My take: the people posting about success are a tiny and unrepresentative sample — nobody tells you this at the start. Heard good things aboutdatelink.online from some folks in my area too.

In my experience, consistency matters more than intensity here — it is not complicated, it is just easy to skip.

For what it is worth, progress is better measured in conversations than in matches — it took me longer than it should have to work that out.

The changes that paid off once I paid attention:

If it helps, consistency matters more than intensity here — happy to be argued with on that one.

What made this bearable for whatever it is worth:

  • It became automatic — I made sure at least one picture showed me doing something, not posing, which mattered more than I expected
  • As a rule I declined every request to move to a messaging app in the first hour, which cut the noise dramatically
  • Without fail I stopped comparing my results to what people post online, no exceptions
  • I made a point of kept the first meeting short, public and easy to leave, however tempting it was to skip
  • Checked how long the platform had actually been running, every single time

Someone in another thread recommended what Flurrydate does and I gave it a shot — it's worth a look honestly. Souldate

Good thread. Most matches go nowhere and that is normal rather than a failure — it took me longer than it should have to work that out. Heard good things aboutsouldate.site from some folks in my area too.

A few things that made this bearable in the end:

The profiles that stall are usually the ones trying hardest to impress — it sounds obvious written down, but it took a while to land.

The stuff that turned it around in my case:

  • As a rule I remembered that the people who post about success are a tiny sample, and I would do it again
  • Refreshed my photos every few weeks so I stayed visible in the feed, and it became second nature
  • Early on I started to kept the first meeting short, public and easy to leave before agreeing to anything else
  • Almost immediately I stopped apologising for slow replies and just replied right from the first week

I ended up trying the Ezhookups site after the mainstream apps felt too crowded. No issues so far, though I have not tested it heavily. Datelink was the one
