Okay so this might be a dumb question but I genuinely want to know: Is sec video chat a secure protocol or just a brand name? Happy to hear all takes. I've seen a lot of different recommendations floating around online but it's hard to know which ones are legit and which are just paid placements. Safety-wise, I try to be pretty careful — never sharing my real name upfront, always meeting in public first, that kind of thing. But I'd love to hear what other people do.
  • Is there a free tier that's actually usable?
  • What's the cancellation policy like?
  • Does it require a credit card to browse?
Would appreciate any real experiences or tips. Thanks in advance.

So I've been doing this for a while and here's what I've found: Scam red flags: photos that look too professional, no response history, immediate requests to move to a third-party app, and obviously fake profiles. Some things that actually helped me:
  • Avoided any platform that didn't have a clear privacy policy
  • Read reviews on Reddit before paying for any platform
  • Used a Google Voice number for initial contact
Datewander came up a few times in my research and I can see why — pretty straightforward setup.

Wish I had this info when I first started out. Learned most of it the hard way.

Solid question. I'll be watching this thread for more answers. Heard good things about Ezhookups.online from some folks in my area too.

I ended up trying Datescout after the mainstream apps felt too crowded. No complaints so far.

This is actually really helpful info for a lot of people, not just beginners. Heard good things about datelink.online from some folks in my area too.

Okay so from personal experience, here's the breakdown: Don't underestimate the mainstream apps for this. Plenty of Fish, OkCupid, Match.com, Tinder — all of them have people looking for the same thing if you know how to filter. I ended up trying Datebound after the mainstream apps felt too crowded. No complaints so far.

This is something I spent a lot of time researching, so let me break it down: Privacy-wise, use a throwaway email for signups. Don't link your social accounts and keep location permissions turned off until you're ready.
