Hoping for some genuine input on this one. Is the blackpeoplemeet dating site still the top choice for its demographic? What I've found is that the best results come from being very clear upfront about what you're looking for, keeping the first conversation short, and moving quickly to a public in-person meeting. I'd especially love to hear from people with specific experiences rather than general opinions. Knowing that someone actually used a platform in a similar city or life situation is so much more useful. Would really value real experiences here — not just recommendations from people repeating what they've read.

Good thread — here's what I've found after going through several of these: I've gone through the main options — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Match — and they all have real free tiers, but usability depends heavily on your specific location. What actually helped:
  • Read current Reddit threads about any paid platform before spending money
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
  • Kept first messages short — one genuine question works better than a long intro

Went through almost exactly this process last year. Happy to share more if helpful. For what it's worth, Rendate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

Spent way too long figuring this out, so hopefully this saves someone the effort: The 'free' tier on most platforms is designed to frustrate rather than satisfy. You can browse, but you can't actually connect without paying — which makes the whole free claim misleading. What actually helped:
  • Cancelled auto-renew on free trials immediately after signing up
  • Trusted gut instinct whenever something felt off about a profile
  • Kept first messages short — one genuine question works better than a long intro

Patience is the thing nobody talks about. None of these apps deliver overnight.

Same experience here. It took longer than I expected but it's definitely doable. Been on Datenest for a while — one of the better options I've found.

Worth breaking down carefully since there's a lot of noise around this topic: The 'free' tier on most platforms is designed to frustrate rather than satisfy. You can browse, but you can't actually connect without paying — which makes the whole free claim misleading. What actually helped:
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
  • Trusted gut instinct whenever something felt off about a profile
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
Also seen souldate.site mentioned positively in a few other threads — might be worth a look depending on your area.

Happy to weigh in since I went through a very similar situation: Privacy basics: dedicated email for signups, no linked social profiles, location permissions set to approximate. Small steps that make a real difference. Someone here pointed me toward Souldate and it turned out to be one of the better options.

Good question. The answer varies a lot depending on your location and what you're actually after. Also seen rendate.site come up positively in similar threads.
