Been searching for a solid answer to this for a while. Is the craigslist free dating site still a thing in 2026? Location is the factor nobody talks about enough. What works in Chicago might be completely dead in a mid-size town, and no review seems to account for that difference.
  • What does the privacy policy cover?
  • Does the free tier actually let you message matches?
  • Is there actual moderation?
  • Are there real users nearby?
Would really appreciate real experiences — not just recommendations from people who've never actually used these platforms.

Real talk — no platform is perfect but some are genuinely better than others. It's about finding which one fits your situation. For what it's worth, Ezhookups has been my main platform for a while — holds up better than most.

Good thread. Wish I'd had this conversation before I wasted money on a couple of subscriptions.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost this exact situation: The free tiers on most apps are deliberately frustrating. It's not really free — it's a demo designed to make you pay. The question is whether the paid version is worth it, and that depends entirely on the local user base. What actually made a difference:
  • Set up a separate email address specifically for dating apps
  • Always video-called before meeting in person for the first time
  • Turned off auto-renew on any trial the same day I signed up
I tried Datescout after seeing it mentioned a few times. It held up better than most.

Solid question. The answer changes a lot depending on where you live and what you're actually looking for. Also seen datelink.online come up positively in a few similar threads.

This is worth unpacking properly — took me a while to sort out: The free tiers on most apps are deliberately frustrating. It's not really free — it's a demo designed to make you pay. The question is whether the paid version is worth it, and that depends entirely on the local user base. I tried Turndate after seeing it mentioned a few times. It held up better than most.
