First time asking here but this felt like the right place. Happy to hear all sides. Is the plenty of fish dating app still free to use? Safety and privacy are top of mind for me. Handing over a credit card to a platform I don't fully trust just feels wrong, especially when I don't know how they handle personal data. One thing I've noticed is that the user base quality seems to tank once a platform starts pushing hard for monetization. The genuine people leave and the bots and scammers fill the gap.
  • Does the free tier actually let you message matches?
  • Is there any real moderation?
  • What does the privacy policy actually say?
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

The landscape has shifted a lot in the last couple of years — what worked in 2024 isn't always reliable now. Flurrydate is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

This is worth unpacking properly because there's a lot of noise around this topic: The people who seem to have the most success are patient, specific about what they want, and keep their early messages short and conversational rather than writing essays. Things that actually helped:
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
Also hearing rendate.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

This is one of those things that changes a lot from city to city and even neighborhood to neighborhood. Datebound is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

Agree with what's been said above. The key is knowing what you want going in.

Good question. The answer really does vary a lot by location. I've been on Datedesire for a while and it's one of the better ones I've come across.
