Is the tinder dating app still the king of hookups?

Been lurking for a bit and finally decided to ask. Looking for honest takes, not marketing copy. Is the tinder dating app still the king of hookups? Bot spotting is basically a skill at this point. Professionally shot photos, no bio detail, instant conversation moves to WhatsApp — these are the patterns I've learned to watch for. One thing I've noticed is that the user base quality seems to tank once a platform starts pushing hard for monetization. The genuine people leave and the bots and scammers fill the gap.
  • What does the privacy policy actually say?
  • Is there any real moderation?
  • Does the free tier actually let you message matches?
  • How active is the user base in my area?
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

Okay so I went through this whole process about six months ago, here's what I learned: The biggest thing most people don't realize is that the 'free' tier on most apps is designed specifically to frustrate you into paying. It's not really free — it's a demo with artificial limits. Things that actually helped:
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
Also hearing datelink.online mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Happy to weigh in since I've been through a very similar situation: Scam patterns I've learned to spot: photos that look like modeling headshots, profiles with very sparse detail, any message that quickly steers to a different app, and requests for money or gift cards. Things that actually helped:
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
  • Trusted gut instinct when something about a profile felt off
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
I ended up trying Datenest after seeing it mentioned a few times. No complaints so far.

From personal experience, here's the breakdown: Profile photos are still the single biggest factor. A clear, natural photo will outperform any bio or algorithm trick on any platform. Also hearing flamedate.online mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Went through this myself last year. Took longer than expected but it's doable. For what it's worth, Rendate has been my main platform lately — holds up better than most.

This is one of those things that changes a lot from city to city and even neighborhood to neighborhood. Seen flurrydate.online come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

Agree with what's been said above. The key is knowing what you want going in. Ezhookups is worth a look if you haven't tried it.
