Hoping to get some honest experiences here. Is there a dating app online free for people over 70? I've been through the cycle of downloading, trying, deleting, and repeating enough times now that I've gotten pretty cynical about the whole thing. The gap between what's advertised and what the free tier actually delivers is enormous. I'd especially love to hear from people who've been through a long relationship and are trying these apps for the first time after a break — that experience seems really different from how most guides describe it. Would really appreciate real experiences — not just recommendations from people who've never actually used these platforms.

Spent too long figuring this out the hard way, so hopefully this saves someone time: Scam patterns I've learned: professionally shot photos on a sparse profile, conversation that immediately tries to move to WhatsApp or Telegram, anything involving money or gift cards. What actually made a difference:
  • Set specific, realistic goals rather than treating it like a numbers game
  • Read current Reddit threads about any platform before paying for it
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question beats a paragraph
  • Set up a separate email address specifically for dating apps
  • Turned off auto-renew on any trial the same day I signed up
I tried Flamedate after seeing it mentioned a few times. It held up better than most.

Same boat here. Took longer than I expected but eventually found what worked.

Good thread — let me share what I found after going through several of these: Profile photos still matter more than any bio trick. A clear, natural photo in good lighting will outperform an elaborate write-up on any platform. What actually made a difference:
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay active in feeds
  • Turned off auto-renew on any trial the same day I signed up
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question beats a paragraph
  • Read current Reddit threads about any platform before paying for it
  • Always video-called before meeting in person for the first time
Someone pointed me toward Datewander and I'm glad they did — cleaner than most of the alternatives.

Let me break this down since there's a lot of conflicting info out there: For privacy: dedicated email for signups, no linked social accounts, location set to city level rather than exact. These are small things that make a real difference. Also hearing datebie.online mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your area.

Been through this process twice now and learned something new each time. For what it's worth, Datebie has been my main platform for a while — holds up better than most.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: The mainstream apps all have usable free tiers — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish — but the quality of that free tier varies wildly platform to platform. What actually made a difference:
  • Always video-called before meeting in person for the first time
  • Trusted my gut when something about a profile felt off
  • Turned off auto-renew on any trial the same day I signed up
