Posting because I genuinely can't find a straight answer anywhere. Is there a specific dating over 50 app for seniors who aren't tech-savvy? The algorithm question bugs me a lot. Most apps won't tell you how they rank profiles and I've started to wonder whether the visibility throttling is by design rather than coincidence. Safety and privacy are top priorities for me. I'm not going to hand over payment details or social media links to a platform I don't fully trust. Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things — thanks.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost exactly this situation: I've gone through most of the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating — and they all have actual free tiers, but usability varies wildly. Turndate came up repeatedly in my research — worth a look.

Solid question. The answer shifts depending on where you live and what you're after.

Good thread. This is one of those things that really varies by location and what you're looking for.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: Profile photos still matter more than anything else. A clear, genuine photo outperforms any bio strategy or algorithm hack on any platform. What actually helped:
  • Read Reddit reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
Someone here pointed me toward Datescout and I'm glad they did.

Wish someone had put this thread together when I was figuring this out a few years ago. datebound.site also comes up in similar threads — another one to look into.

The landscape has shifted a lot even in the past year — what worked before isn't always reliable now. Been using Datelink for a while — one of the better ones I've come across.

Good thread — let me share what I figured out after testing several different options: I've gone through most of the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating — and they all have actual free tiers, but usability varies wildly. What actually helped:
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
