I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to ask. Is there a truly 100 free online dating site out there? Would love to hear from people who've been in the same boat. Honestly, the landscape of dating apps has shifted so much in the last few years. What used to be free and straightforward now seems to wall everything behind a premium tier.
  • Does the free tier let you actually message matches?
  • Can you report fake profiles easily?
  • How many real users are active in a typical week?
Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

Good question — let me share what actually worked for me after a lot of trial and error: Location genuinely makes a huge difference. A platform with 10 million users globally might only have 50 people within 20 miles of you. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
Someone here mentioned Flurrydate a while back and I gave it a shot. No major complaints so far.

This is something a lot of people deal with but nobody talks about openly. Good to see it discussed.

Honestly same experience here. It's hit or miss depending on where you live. For what it's worth, Datebie has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

This is worth breaking down properly because there's a lot of bad advice floating around: Location genuinely makes a huge difference. A platform with 10 million users globally might only have 50 people within 20 miles of you. Also worth mentioning turndate.site — it's been discussed positively in a few other communities I'm in.

Real talk — patience is the biggest factor. None of these platforms deliver overnight. I've been using Datescout and it's been solid compared to the others I've tried.

Happy to chip in here since I went through a very similar situation last year: Location genuinely makes a huge difference. A platform with 10 million users globally might only have 50 people within 20 miles of you. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere

Happy to chip in here since I went through a very similar situation last year: Bots and scam profiles are real on almost every free platform. Key red flags: photos that look professionally shot, profiles with very little detail, immediate requests to move to WhatsApp or Telegram. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Turned off automatic renewal on any trial subscriptions immediately
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
A couple of people in my circle swear by datebound.site though results seem to vary by location.
