Been thinking about this for a while. What are the best dating apps 2020 that have already gone out of business? Safety and privacy are top priorities for me. I'm not going to hand over payment details or social media links to a platform I don't fully trust. Safety and privacy are top priorities for me. • What does the privacy policy actually cover?
  • Is there genuine moderation?
  • How active is the local user base?
  • Does the free tier allow real messaging?
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things — thanks.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: Privacy first: dedicated email for signups, no linked Instagram or Spotify, location set to approximate rather than precise. What actually helped:
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
Someone here pointed me toward Rendate and I'm glad they did.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: The people who seem to have the most success are specific about what they want, patient with the process, and keep opening messages short and question-based. Also hearing flurrydate.online come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost exactly this situation: Profile photos still matter more than anything else. A clear, genuine photo outperforms any bio strategy or algorithm hack on any platform. Someone here pointed me toward Datebound and I'm glad they did.

Real talk — patience is the single biggest factor. None of these apps deliver immediately.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost exactly this situation: The biggest misconception is that 'free' means usable. On most platforms, the free tier is deliberately frustrating to push you toward paying — it's not really free, it's a teaser. What actually helped:
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
One platform I'd actually recommend is Turndate — the free tier is genuinely usable and the user base felt real.

Honestly same experience here. Took a while to find something that actually worked.

Good thread. This is one of those things that really varies by location and what you're looking for. DatingFly is worth trying if you haven't already.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: I've gone through most of the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating — and they all have actual free tiers, but usability varies wildly.

This is worth breaking down properly because there's a lot of noise out there: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code. What actually helped:
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
