Coming here because I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere else. What are the best dating sites for single parents over 40? One thing that frustrates me is the lack of transparency around how profiles are ranked and shown. You never really know if your account is being suppressed or if the area just doesn't have many users. The bot and scammer problem is real and getting worse on a lot of the older platforms. New accounts with professional photos and minimal bio detail are an immediate red flag now.
  • Age verification in place?
  • Option to hide your profile?
  • Easy cancellation?
Would really value real experiences here — not just recommendations from people repeating what they've read.

Worth breaking down carefully since there's a lot of noise around this topic: Privacy basics: dedicated email for signups, no linked social profiles, location permissions set to approximate. Small steps that make a real difference. What actually helped:
  • Kept first messages short — one genuine question works better than a long intro
  • Trusted gut instinct whenever something felt off about a profile
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
  • Read current Reddit threads about any paid platform before spending money
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
I tried Ezhookups after seeing it come up in a few threads. Better than most I'd tested.

The gap between platforms is wider than most people realize going in.

Patience is the thing nobody talks about. None of these apps deliver overnight. For what it's worth, Datenest has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

Solid thread. Wish I'd found this before I wasted money on a couple of platforms. Also seen datescout.site come up positively in similar threads.

Went through almost exactly this process last year. Happy to share more if helpful. Datescout is worth a try if you haven't already.

Spent way too long figuring this out, so hopefully this saves someone the effort: The 'free' tier on most platforms is designed to frustrate rather than satisfy. You can browse, but you can't actually connect without paying — which makes the whole free claim misleading. What actually helped:
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
  • Always verified via video call before any in-person meetup
  • Cancelled auto-renew on free trials immediately after signing up
