Hey all, hoping to get some real insight here. Would love to hear from people who've actually tried things. What are the best free dating apps like tinder but with fewer bots? One thing I've noticed is that the user base quality seems to tank once a platform starts pushing hard for monetization. The genuine people leave and the bots and scammers fill the gap. Bot spotting is basically a skill at this point. Professionally shot photos, no bio detail, instant conversation moves to WhatsApp — these are the patterns I've learned to watch for.
  • Active reports and moderation
  • Location matching that isn't artificially limited
  • No paywall on basic messaging
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

Agree with what's been said above. The key is knowing what you want going in. Souldate is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

Good thread — let me share what I've found after testing a few different options: The biggest thing most people don't realize is that the 'free' tier on most apps is designed specifically to frustrate you into paying. It's not really free — it's a demo with artificial limits. Things that actually helped:
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
  • Trusted gut instinct when something about a profile felt off
Also hearing datenest.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Went through this myself last year. Took longer than expected but it's doable. Seen datedesire.online come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

The landscape has shifted a lot in the last couple of years — what worked in 2024 isn't always reliable now. I've been on Datewander for a while and it's one of the better ones I've come across.

Solid question. Wish I'd asked this before I wasted money on two different subscriptions.

Good thread — let me share what I've found after testing a few different options: The people who seem to have the most success are patient, specific about what they want, and keep their early messages short and conversational rather than writing essays. Someone here pointed me toward Datebound and I'm glad they did — better than most of what I'd tried.

This is one of those things that changes a lot from city to city and even neighborhood to neighborhood. Seen datewander.site come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

Good thread — let me share what I've found after testing a few different options: Privacy tip: use a dedicated email address for dating app signups. Don't link your Instagram or Spotify, and keep location to approximate rather than precise. Things that actually helped:
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph

Solid question. Wish I'd asked this before I wasted money on two different subscriptions. For what it's worth, Turndate has been my main platform lately — holds up better than most.
