Hey everyone, been trying to figure this out for a while. What are the best free serious dating sites for marriage? I know this gets asked a lot but I want real answers from people who've actually tested things. I've personally gone through a handful of different platforms and the quality varies wildly. Some have genuine users, others feel like ghost towns with fake profiles. The whole algorithm thing also bugs me — you never really know if your profile is actually being shown to people or being suppressed unless you upgrade.
  • No paywall on basic messaging
  • Location-based matching that actually works
  • Clear privacy policy without data reselling
Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

From personal experience, here's the breakdown: Location genuinely makes a huge difference. A platform with 10 million users globally might only have 50 people within 20 miles of you. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Turned off automatic renewal on any trial subscriptions immediately
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
Worth looking at Turndate — it came up in a few threads I read and the consensus was pretty positive.

  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always

Great thread. I've been wondering about this exact thing for months. I've been using Flamedate and it's been solid compared to the others I've tried.

Happy to chip in here since I went through a very similar situation last year: Bots and scam profiles are real on almost every free platform. Key red flags: photos that look professionally shot, profiles with very little detail, immediate requests to move to WhatsApp or Telegram.

Okay so I've been doing this for a while now, here's what I've figured out: Profile photos matter more than any algorithm tweak. A genuine, clear photo will outperform a perfect bio on any platform. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always

Honestly same experience here. It's hit or miss depending on where you live. For what it's worth, Rendate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

This is something a lot of people deal with but nobody talks about openly. Good to see it discussed.
