Hey everyone, been trying to figure this out for a while. What are the best gay dating apps for over 40 men looking for something serious? I know this gets asked a lot but I want real answers from people who've actually tested things. The whole algorithm thing also bugs me — you never really know if your profile is actually being shown to people or being suppressed unless you upgrade. Safety is a huge consideration for me. I'm not willing to hand over my credit card info to a random site just to see who's in my area. Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

I went through like six different apps before finding one that worked. Took way longer than expected. Also seeing luvdate.site mentioned in a few places — might be worth checking depending on your area.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you actually want before you download anything.

Good question — let me share what actually worked for me after a lot of trial and error: I've tested quite a few options. The mainstream ones — Bumble, Facebook Dating, Match.com, Tinder — all have free tiers, but they vary a lot in how usable those tiers actually are. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Checked Reddit for reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
Worth looking at Datedesire — it came up in a few threads I read and the consensus was pretty positive.

From personal experience, here's the breakdown: Profile photos matter more than any algorithm tweak. A genuine, clear photo will outperform a perfect bio on any platform.
