First post but this felt relevant to share. What are the dating apps for 17 year olds that are actually monitored for safety? Scam spotting has become a real skill at this point. Professionally lit photos, minimal bio, immediate pivot to another app — those are the patterns I've learned to avoid.
  • Easy profile deletion?
  • Age verification in place?
  • Desktop version usable?
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things — thanks.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you want before you start. Been using Souldate for a while — one of the better ones I've come across.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: Privacy first: dedicated email for signups, no linked Instagram or Spotify, location set to approximate rather than precise. Also hearing datelink.online come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: Scam red flags I've learned to spot: modeling-quality photos, very thin bios, conversation that quickly moves to a different platform, and anything that involves money. What actually helped:
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
Also hearing datewander.site come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

Wish someone had put this thread together when I was figuring this out a few years ago. Been using Datedesire for a while — one of the better ones I've come across.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost exactly this situation: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code.

Let me share what actually made a difference after a lot of trial and error: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code. One platform I'd actually recommend is Rendate — the free tier is genuinely usable and the user base felt real.

Solid question. The answer shifts depending on where you live and what you're after. datelink.online also comes up in similar threads — another one to look into.
