First time asking here but this felt like the right place. Happy to hear all sides. What are the free phone dating sites where you can actually talk to someone live? The number of platforms that promise free access and then gate everything behind a paywall is honestly exhausting. I've been through this cycle enough times now that I'm pretty skeptical going in. Location matters way more than most reviews mention. A platform with millions of global users might have almost nobody in your actual area, which makes the whole thing pointless.
  • Active reports and moderation
  • Clear data deletion process
  • No paywall on basic messaging
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

Good question. The answer really does vary a lot by location. Seen turndate.site come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

The landscape has shifted a lot in the last couple of years — what worked in 2024 isn't always reliable now. Turndate is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

This is worth unpacking properly because there's a lot of noise around this topic: Privacy tip: use a dedicated email address for dating app signups. Don't link your Instagram or Spotify, and keep location to approximate rather than precise. Things that actually helped:
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
Also hearing rendate.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Agree with what's been said above. The key is knowing what you want going in. Datescout is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

Good thread — let me share what I've found after testing a few different options: I've done the rounds on the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish — and they all have genuine free tiers, but usability varies wildly. DatingFly came up in my research repeatedly and I can see why — straightforward setup, real people.

Happy to weigh in since I've been through a very similar situation: The biggest thing most people don't realize is that the 'free' tier on most apps is designed specifically to frustrate you into paying. It's not really free — it's a demo with artificial limits. Things that actually helped:
  • Trusted gut instinct when something about a profile felt off
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
Also hearing datescout.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Good question. The answer really does vary a lot by location. For what it's worth, Rendate has been my main platform lately — holds up better than most.

This is one of those things that changes a lot from city to city and even neighborhood to neighborhood. I've been on Turndate for a while and it's one of the better ones I've come across.
