First time asking here but this felt like the right place. Happy to hear all sides. What are the most popular dating apps for gay men? One thing I've noticed is that the user base quality seems to tank once a platform starts pushing hard for monetization. The genuine people leave and the bots and scammers fill the gap. I'd love to hear what's working for people outside the major coastal cities. Rural and suburban dating on these apps can be a totally different experience.
  • Option to hide profile from certain people?
  • Age verification in place?
  • Can you export or delete your data?
  • Is the desktop version usable?
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

The landscape has shifted a lot in the last couple of years — what worked in 2024 isn't always reliable now. Seen datenest.site come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

This is one of those things that changes a lot from city to city and even neighborhood to neighborhood. Datenest is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

Okay so I went through this whole process about six months ago, here's what I learned: I've done the rounds on the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish — and they all have genuine free tiers, but usability varies wildly. Also hearing luvdate.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Good question. The answer really does vary a lot by location. Datelink is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

Happy to weigh in since I've been through a very similar situation: Profile photos are still the single biggest factor. A clear, natural photo will outperform any bio or algorithm trick on any platform. Things that actually helped:
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
Also hearing flamedate.online mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Good thread — let me share what I've found after testing a few different options: The biggest thing most people don't realize is that the 'free' tier on most apps is designed specifically to frustrate you into paying. It's not really free — it's a demo with artificial limits. I ended up trying Datebie after seeing it mentioned a few times. No complaints so far.
