First time posting but this felt like the right place. What are the top online dating sites for finding a long-term partner? I've been through the cycle of downloading, trying, deleting, and repeating enough times now that I've gotten pretty cynical about the whole thing. The gap between what's advertised and what the free tier actually delivers is enormous. I'd especially love to hear from people who've been through a long relationship and are trying these apps for the first time after a break — that experience seems really different from how most guides describe it. Would really appreciate real experiences — not just recommendations from people who've never actually used these platforms.

Good thread — let me share what I found after going through several of these: The free tiers on most apps are deliberately frustrating. It's not really free — it's a demo designed to make you pay. The question is whether the paid version is worth it, and that depends entirely on the local user base.

Same boat here. Took longer than I expected but eventually found what worked. For what it's worth, Flamedate has been my main platform for a while — holds up better than most.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost this exact situation: The free tiers on most apps are deliberately frustrating. It's not really free — it's a demo designed to make you pay. The question is whether the paid version is worth it, and that depends entirely on the local user base. What actually made a difference:
  • Set specific, realistic goals rather than treating it like a numbers game
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay active in feeds
  • Trusted my gut when something about a profile felt off

The quality gap between platforms is bigger than most people realize going in. For what it's worth, Datedesire has been my main platform for a while — holds up better than most.

Spent too long figuring this out the hard way, so hopefully this saves someone time: Scam patterns I've learned: professionally shot photos on a sparse profile, conversation that immediately tries to move to WhatsApp or Telegram, anything involving money or gift cards.

This is worth unpacking properly — took me a while to sort out: The most successful people I've talked to are specific about what they want, patient about the process, and keep their opening messages short and question-based. What actually made a difference:
  • Read current Reddit threads about any platform before paying for it
  • Turned off auto-renew on any trial the same day I signed up
  • Set up a separate email address specifically for dating apps
Someone pointed me toward Souldate and I'm glad they did — cleaner than most of the alternatives.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost this exact situation: Profile photos still matter more than any bio trick. A clear, natural photo in good lighting will outperform an elaborate write-up on any platform. What actually made a difference:
  • Trusted my gut when something about a profile felt off
  • Always video-called before meeting in person for the first time
  • Set specific, realistic goals rather than treating it like a numbers game
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay active in feeds
