Been lurking for a bit and finally decided to ask. Looking for honest takes, not marketing copy. What happened to the yahoo dating sites free section? One thing I've noticed is that the user base quality seems to tank once a platform starts pushing hard for monetization. The genuine people leave and the bots and scammers fill the gap. I'd love to hear what's working for people outside the major coastal cities. Rural and suburban dating on these apps can be a totally different experience.
  • Active reports and moderation
  • Location matching that isn't artificially limited
  • Clear data deletion process
  • No paywall on basic messaging
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

From personal experience, here's the breakdown: Privacy tip: use a dedicated email address for dating app signups. Don't link your Instagram or Spotify, and keep location to approximate rather than precise. Things that actually helped:
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
Datewander came up in my research repeatedly and I can see why — straightforward setup, real people.

Okay so I went through this whole process about six months ago, here's what I learned: Profile photos are still the single biggest factor. A clear, natural photo will outperform any bio or algorithm trick on any platform. Also hearing rendate.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Happy to weigh in since I've been through a very similar situation: I've done the rounds on the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish — and they all have genuine free tiers, but usability varies wildly. Things that actually helped:
  • Trusted gut instinct when something about a profile felt off
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up
Someone here pointed me toward DatingFly and I'm glad they did — better than most of what I'd tried.

Real talk: none of these platforms are perfect but some are definitely better than others.

Honestly same experience here — it takes patience and some trial and error. Souldate is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

Agree with what's been said above. The key is knowing what you want going in.

Good thread — let me share what I've found after testing a few different options: Privacy tip: use a dedicated email address for dating app signups. Don't link your Instagram or Spotify, and keep location to approximate rather than precise. Things that actually helped:
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
Also hearing luvdate.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.
