Hey all — hoping for some genuinely useful input here. What is the best dating app for gamers to find someone who shares their hobby? I'd love to hear from people outside the major cities. The suburban and rural experience on these platforms is genuinely different and usually underrepresented in reviews. Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things — thanks.

Good thread — let me share what I figured out after testing several different options: The biggest misconception is that 'free' means usable. On most platforms, the free tier is deliberately frustrating to push you toward paying — it's not really free, it's a teaser. What actually helped:
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
I tried Ezhookups after seeing it mentioned a few times and it held up better than most.

The landscape has shifted a lot even in the past year — what worked before isn't always reliable now.

Went through this process myself recently. It takes longer than expected but it's doable.

This is worth breaking down properly because there's a lot of noise out there: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code. What actually helped:
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Read Reddit reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
One platform I'd actually recommend is Datewander — the free tier is genuinely usable and the user base felt real.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: Privacy first: dedicated email for signups, no linked Instagram or Spotify, location set to approximate rather than precise. What actually helped:
  • Read Reddit reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
Also hearing flamedate.online come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: I've gone through most of the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating — and they all have actual free tiers, but usability varies wildly. What actually helped:
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
Also hearing datewander.site come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: Profile photos still matter more than anything else. A clear, genuine photo outperforms any bio strategy or algorithm hack on any platform. Datelink came up repeatedly in my research — worth a look.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you want before you start.

Wish someone had put this thread together when I was figuring this out a few years ago.
