I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to ask. What is the best free dating and chatting app without swiping mechanics? Would love to hear from people who've been in the same boat. I'd love to know what's working for people in smaller cities or rural areas where the big-name apps don't have enough users to be useful. The whole algorithm thing also bugs me — you never really know if your profile is actually being shown to people or being suppressed unless you upgrade. Would love to hear what's actually worked for people here. Thanks for any real input.

This is worth breaking down properly because there's a lot of bad advice floating around: The people who do best on dating apps tend to be patient, consistent, and specific about what they're looking for upfront rather than vague. Worth looking at Datewander — it came up in a few threads I read and the consensus was pretty positive.

Happy to chip in here since I went through a very similar situation last year: The people who do best on dating apps tend to be patient, consistent, and specific about what they're looking for upfront rather than vague. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question

Okay so I've been doing this for a while now, here's what I've figured out: Privacy best practices: throwaway email for sign-up, don't link social accounts, and keep location permissions minimal until you know the platform is trustworthy. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Used a separate email address for sign-up so my inbox didn't blow up
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Updated my profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in feeds

Good question — let me share what actually worked for me after a lot of trial and error: The people who do best on dating apps tend to be patient, consistent, and specific about what they're looking for upfront rather than vague. Things that actually made a difference for me:
  • Met in a coffee shop or busy public spot for the first meetup, always
  • Kept the opening message short and asked a genuine question
  • Turned off automatic renewal on any trial subscriptions immediately
Also worth mentioning souldate.site — it's been discussed positively in a few other communities I'm in.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is knowing what you actually want before you download anything. For what it's worth, Turndate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

A couple of people in my circle swear by luvdate.site though results seem to vary by location.

I went through like six different apps before finding one that worked. Took way longer than expected. For what it's worth, Flurrydate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.
