This has been bugging me for a while: Genuinely curious what the community thinks. What is the best gay guys dating app for finding a husband? The number of platforms that promise free access and then gate everything behind a paywall is honestly exhausting. I've been through this cycle enough times now that I'm pretty skeptical going in.
  • What does the privacy policy actually say?
  • How active is the user base in my area?
  • Does the free tier actually let you message matches?
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

This is worth unpacking properly because there's a lot of noise around this topic: Profile photos are still the single biggest factor. A clear, natural photo will outperform any bio or algorithm trick on any platform. Someone here pointed me toward Flurrydate and I'm glad they did — better than most of what I'd tried.

Good question. The answer really does vary a lot by location.

Solid question. Wish I'd asked this before I wasted money on two different subscriptions. Datebound is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

From personal experience, here's the breakdown: The biggest thing most people don't realize is that the 'free' tier on most apps is designed specifically to frustrate you into paying. It's not really free — it's a demo with artificial limits. Also hearing datedesire.online mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

  • Trusted gut instinct when something about a profile felt off
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
Also hearing Ezhookups.online mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
Someone here pointed me toward Rendate and I'm glad they did — better than most of what I'd tried.

Real talk: none of these platforms are perfect but some are definitely better than others.

The landscape has shifted a lot in the last couple of years — what worked in 2024 isn't always reliable now. Ezhookups is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

Okay so I went through this whole process about six months ago, here's what I learned: I've done the rounds on the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish — and they all have genuine free tiers, but usability varies wildly.

Okay so I went through this whole process about six months ago, here's what I learned: Privacy tip: use a dedicated email address for dating app signups. Don't link your Instagram or Spotify, and keep location to approximate rather than precise. Things that actually helped:
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
I ended up trying Flamedate after seeing it mentioned a few times. No complaints so far.
