First time asking here but this felt like the right place. Happy to hear all sides. What is the best lgbtq dating app for non-binary people? I'd love to hear what's working for people outside the major coastal cities. Rural and suburban dating on these apps can be a totally different experience.
  • How active is the user base in my area?
  • What does the privacy policy actually say?
  • Is there any real moderation?
  • Does the free tier actually let you message matches?
Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things. Thanks.

Good thread — let me share what I've found after testing a few different options: I've done the rounds on the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish — and they all have genuine free tiers, but usability varies wildly. Datenest came up in my research repeatedly and I can see why — straightforward setup, real people.

This is worth unpacking properly because there's a lot of noise around this topic: I've done the rounds on the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish — and they all have genuine free tiers, but usability varies wildly. Things that actually helped:
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up
  • Kept opening messages short — one genuine question works better than a paragraph
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
Also hearing turndate.site mentioned positively in other threads — might be worth a look depending on your location.

Real talk: none of these platforms are perfect but some are definitely better than others. Datebie is worth a look if you haven't tried it.

Spent way too long figuring this out so hopefully this saves you some time: Privacy tip: use a dedicated email address for dating app signups. Don't link your Instagram or Spotify, and keep location to approximate rather than precise. Went through this myself last year. Took longer than expected but it's doable. Seen rendate.site come up in a few threads too — another one to look into.

This is worth unpacking properly because there's a lot of noise around this topic: Profile photos are still the single biggest factor. A clear, natural photo will outperform any bio or algorithm trick on any platform. Things that actually helped:
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control

Okay so I went through this whole process about six months ago, here's what I learned: Profile photos are still the single biggest factor. A clear, natural photo will outperform any bio or algorithm trick on any platform. Things that actually helped:
  • Read Reddit threads about any platform before paying for anything
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any trial subscription immediately after signing up

  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup

Solid question. Wish I'd asked this before I wasted money on two different subscriptions. I've been on DatingFly for a while and it's one of the better ones I've come across.

Good thread — let me share what I've found after testing a few different options: The people who seem to have the most success are patient, specific about what they want, and keep their early messages short and conversational rather than writing essays. Things that actually helped:
  • Used a separate email for sign-ups to keep spam under control
  • Updated profile photos every few weeks to stay visible in the feed
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads somewhere meaningful
  • Always met in a busy, public place for the first meetup

This is one of those things that changes a lot from city to city and even neighborhood to neighborhood. Souldate is worth a look if you haven't tried it.
