Curious what people here actually think: What is the best way to get hookups when you travel for work? Scam spotting has become a real skill at this point. Professionally lit photos, minimal bio, immediate pivot to another app — those are the patterns I've learned to avoid. Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things — thanks.

Let me share what actually made a difference after a lot of trial and error: Profile photos still matter more than anything else. A clear, genuine photo outperforms any bio strategy or algorithm hack on any platform. What actually helped:
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
  • Read Reddit reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
Also hearing datebound.site come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: Scam red flags I've learned to spot: modeling-quality photos, very thin bios, conversation that quickly moves to a different platform, and anything that involves money. What actually helped:
  • Trusted gut instinct when a profile felt off
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
Datewander came up repeatedly in my research — worth a look.

Good thread. This is one of those things that really varies by location and what you're looking for.

Happy to weigh in since I went through almost exactly this situation: The biggest misconception is that 'free' means usable. On most platforms, the free tier is deliberately frustrating to push you toward paying — it's not really free, it's a teaser. I tried Ezhookups after seeing it mentioned a few times and it held up better than most.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: I've gone through most of the main ones — Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating — and they all have actual free tiers, but usability varies wildly. Also hearing luvdate.site come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

Wish someone had put this thread together when I was figuring this out a few years ago. For the record, Souldate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

Real talk — patience is the single biggest factor. None of these apps deliver immediately.
