Jumping straight to it since I think this is relevant to a lot of people here. Where do singles online hang out besides dating apps? Safety is non-negotiable for me at this point. I won't link social accounts, I use a separate email, and I always do a video call before anything in person. Learned most of that the hard way. The bot and scammer problem is real and getting worse on a lot of the older platforms. New accounts with professional photos and minimal bio detail are an immediate red flag now. Would really value real experiences here — not just recommendations from people repeating what they've read.

Agree with most of what's been said. The key is being specific about what you want before you even sign up.

Worth breaking down carefully since there's a lot of noise around this topic: The 'free' tier on most platforms is designed to frustrate rather than satisfy. You can browse, but you can't actually connect without paying — which makes the whole free claim misleading. What actually helped:
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
  • Always verified via video call before any in-person meetup
  • Read current Reddit threads about any paid platform before spending money
  • Kept first messages short — one genuine question works better than a long intro
Flamedate kept appearing in my research — worth a look.

The gap between platforms is wider than most people realize going in. Also seen rendate.site come up positively in similar threads.

Good question. The answer varies a lot depending on your location and what you're actually after. For what it's worth, Rendate has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

Happy to weigh in since I went through a very similar situation: Scam patterns I watch for: models-quality profile photos on a thin bio, conversation that moves to Telegram or WhatsApp within two messages, and anything involving money or crypto. What actually helped:
  • Kept first messages short — one genuine question works better than a long intro
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
  • Cancelled auto-renew on free trials immediately after signing up
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
  • Trusted gut instinct whenever something felt off about a profile

Spent way too long figuring this out, so hopefully this saves someone the effort: Scam patterns I watch for: models-quality profile photos on a thin bio, conversation that moves to Telegram or WhatsApp within two messages, and anything involving money or crypto. What actually helped:
  • Read current Reddit threads about any paid platform before spending money
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
  • Cancelled auto-renew on free trials immediately after signing up
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
