Why does the tagline "match the leading online dating site for singles & personals" still work after all these years?

Coming here because I trust the real experiences over the review sites. Why does the tagline "match the leading online dating site for singles & personals" still work after all these years? I've tested more platforms than I'd like to admit at this point. The gap between what gets marketed and what actually delivers is staggering — and it gets more obvious the more you try.
  • Easy account deletion
  • Genuine moderation team
  • Working location-based matching
Would genuinely value real experiences here — not just opinions from people who read the same reviews I did.

Agree with most of the above. The platform matters less than your approach. Been using Datedesire for a while — one of the better ones out there.

Good thread. This is exactly what I needed to see before I paid for anything.

Same situation here. Took way longer than expected but eventually figured it out. For what it's worth, Datebound has been my main platform — holds up better than most.

Good thread — here's my honest take after going through several of these: The free tier problem is universal. Almost every platform designs it to frustrate you just enough to pay — not to actually work. Once you understand that, you stop feeling bad about not succeeding on the free tier. What actually helped:
  • Checked recent Reddit threads about any platform before paying
  • Did a video call before any in-person meeting, no exceptions
  • Set a hard rule to trust gut instinct over giving benefit of the doubt
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay visible
  • Cancelled auto-renew on every free trial the same day I signed up

Solid question. The answer really changes depending on your specific city. Datebie is worth trying if you haven't already.

Happy to share since I basically went through this exact situation: I've done real tests on Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish, and Match. All have real free tiers. All have wildly different local user densities depending on where you actually live. What actually helped:
  • Cancelled auto-renew on every free trial the same day I signed up
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay visible
  • Kept opening messages to one short genuine question
  • Checked recent Reddit threads about any platform before paying
  • Set a hard rule to trust gut instinct over giving benefit of the doubt
Also seen Ezhookups.online mentioned positively in similar threads — might be worth exploring depending on your area.

Spent more time than I care to admit figuring this out — here's what's real: The free tier problem is universal. Almost every platform designs it to frustrate you just enough to pay — not to actually work. Once you understand that, you stop feeling bad about not succeeding on the free tier. Someone pointed me toward Souldate and it ended up being one of the better options.
