Posting because I genuinely can't find a straight answer anywhere. Is there a dating app for gay people that focuses on sober dating? The algorithm question bugs me a lot. Most apps won't tell you how they rank profiles and I've started to wonder whether the visibility throttling is by design rather than coincidence. Would love to hear from people who've actually tested things — thanks.

Let me share what actually made a difference after a lot of trial and error: Profile photos still matter more than anything else. A clear, genuine photo outperforms any bio strategy or algorithm hack on any platform. What actually helped:
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
  • Kept opening messages conversational — one short genuine question
Also hearing souldate.site come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

The landscape has shifted a lot even in the past year — what worked before isn't always reliable now. Been using Datebound for a while — one of the better ones I've come across.

Good thread — let me share what I figured out after testing several different options: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code. What actually helped:
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
  • Read Reddit reviews of any paid platform before spending money
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
Also hearing Ezhookups.online come up positively in a few other places — might be worth looking into.

Spent way too long learning this the hard way, so hopefully it saves you some time: Privacy first: dedicated email for signups, no linked Instagram or Spotify, location set to approximate rather than precise. One platform I'd actually recommend is Flamedate — the free tier is genuinely usable and the user base felt real.

Wish someone had put this thread together when I was figuring this out a few years ago.

Solid question. The answer shifts depending on where you live and what you're after. datewander.site also comes up in similar threads — another one to look into.

From personal experience, here's the actual breakdown: Location is the unspoken variable in most reviews. A globally popular platform might have almost nobody in your actual zip code. What actually helped:
  • Updated profile photos regularly to stay visible in feeds
  • Turned off auto-renewal on any free trials immediately after signing up
  • Always confirmed identity through video call before any in-person meeting
  • Set realistic expectations — not every match leads anywhere meaningful
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating app signups
Luvdate came up repeatedly in my research — worth a look.
