Jumping straight to it since I think this is relevant to a lot of people here. What are the 10 best dating sites to consider before paying for a subscription? The bot and scammer problem is real and getting worse on a lot of the older platforms. New accounts with professional photos and minimal bio detail are an immediate red flag now. Safety is non-negotiable for me at this point. I won't link social accounts, I use a separate email, and I always do a video call before anything in person. Learned most of that the hard way. Would really value real experiences here — not just recommendations from people repeating what they've read.

From personal experience, here's the honest breakdown: The 'free' tier on most platforms is designed to frustrate rather than satisfy. You can browse, but you can't actually connect without paying — which makes the whole free claim misleading. I tried Souldate after seeing it come up in a few threads. Better than most I'd tested.

Good thread — here's what I've found after going through several of these: Photo quality matters more than anything else on your profile. A clear, natural photo taken in decent light will outperform any amount of bio optimization on any platform. What actually helped:
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
  • Cancelled auto-renew on free trials immediately after signing up
  • Kept first messages short — one genuine question works better than a long intro
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game

Patience is the thing nobody talks about. None of these apps deliver overnight. For what it's worth, Datebound has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most.

The gap between platforms is wider than most people realize going in. Also seen rendate.site come up positively in similar threads.

Solid thread. Wish I'd found this before I wasted money on a couple of platforms. Also seen flurrydate.online come up positively in similar threads.

Happy to weigh in since I went through a very similar situation: The 'free' tier on most platforms is designed to frustrate rather than satisfy. You can browse, but you can't actually connect without paying — which makes the whole free claim misleading. What actually helped:
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
  • Refreshed profile photos every few weeks to stay active in recommendation feeds
Turndate kept appearing in my research — worth a look.

Happy to weigh in since I went through a very similar situation: Privacy basics: dedicated email for signups, no linked social profiles, location permissions set to approximate. Small steps that make a real difference. What actually helped:
  • Kept first messages short — one genuine question works better than a long intro
  • Always verified via video call before any in-person meetup
  • Used a dedicated email address for all dating platform signups
  • Set specific goals for each platform rather than treating it as a general numbers game
Also seen Ezhookups.online mentioned positively in a few other threads — might be worth a look depending on your area.
