For what it is worth, a month is about the minimum before judging any platform — worth testing yourself rather than taking my word for it. What are the real dating app without payment walls for basic chatting?

Asking in a thread like this beats any review site — it is the single change that made the most difference.

  • Easy profile deletion?
  • Desktop version usable?
  • From what I have seen, a bad week is a bad week, not evidence about the platform — that is roughly where I landed after a lot of trial and error.
  • Almost immediately I kept my expectations for any single conversation deliberately low, and it saved me a lot of grief

In my experience, taking a break when it starts to feel like admin is sensible — that is the bit I would tell anyone signing up today.

For what it is worth, results vary a lot and a quiet fortnight means very little — worth testing yourself rather than taking my word for it. From my side, expecting any single conversation to work out is the wrong frame — nobody tells you this at the start. Been using Souldate for a while — one of the better ones I've come across. For what it is worth, here is the useful part:

From what I have seen, the goal of a first message is a reply, not an impression — i would not have believed it a year ago.

What actually helped:

  • Something I learned the hard way — I made sure at least one picture showed me doing something, not posing, and the difference showed within days
  • Every time I measured progress in conversations rather than matches
  • Signed up with a fresh address rather than my work one
  • After one bad experience I walked away from anyone who pushed to move off-platform straight away, however tempting it was to skip

Having tried a few, nobody's experience generalises, including mine — i would not have believed it a year ago.

For what it is worth, patience is genuinely the differentiator, dull as that sounds — it is not complicated, it is just easy to skip. Broadly speaking, a site confident in its product does not hide the pricing page — it took me longer than it should have to work that out. Someone here pointed me toward Datedesire in particular and I'm glad they did. Datebound worked for me

My take: patience is genuinely the differentiator, dull as that sounds — it took me longer than it should have to work that out.

In my experience, a month is about the minimum before judging any platform — it sounds obvious written down, but it took a while to land. For the record, Datescout was the one has been my go-to for a while — holds up better than most. Flamedate's free tier

For what it is worth, photos give away more than people realise — happy to be argued with on that one.
